Fernbank Holiday Cottage is delighted to share the news that Dundee has been short-listed for the UK City of Culture 2017 along with Swansea Bay, Hull and Leicester.
The city’s universities, University of Dundee and Abertay, and arts institutions such as the McManus Galleries, Dundee Contemporary Arts and Dundee Rep theatre play a major role in Dundee’s cultural landscape and with the £45 million V&A at Dundee museum, set to be completed at the heart of the waterfront in 2015, it’s exciting times for the city as a whole!
The next stage of the bidding process will see the city’s team prepare a presentation and business model for the panel of judges, who will also pay Dundee a visit to see what it has to offer.
Head judge Phil Redmond, a TV producer and museum boss, said that Dundee’s ambitious plans for the future had impressed. He said: “One of the main points we liked about Dundee’s bid was that it showed the city is a hidden jewel.
“There’s a lot of great work going on in Dundee already, and there’s also a lot more to come.”
A total of 11 cities were in the running initially with the winner being announced in November.
